one of those meaningful questions

Does beard grow slower at night?

It's funny: when I shave in the evening, there's no significant progress in the morning, whereas when I shave in the morning, there's a noticeable stubble by the end of the day.

Or is that a consequence of the 8/12 hours time difference?

That's easy to figure out - what's the state of your facial hair in the middle of the next day if you shave in the evening?

At least you're not a bearded woman. :)

ahem, i don't get it...

OK, in theory, your beard should be about the same length X hours after shaving, right? So how does "shaving in the evening + sleeping + 4 hours" stubble compare to "shaving in the morning + 12 hours" stubble?

If it's about the same, then yes, those 4 hours make a difference. If evening shaving produces considerably less stubble even after 12 hours, one of the possible conclusions could be that you're less manly at night. :P

Oh bloody hell, that first sentence makes no sense. Let me try again.

OK, in theory, your beard should be about the same length X hours after shaving, no matter when you shave, right?

One of the symptoms of procrastination. Sorry.
